Domestic woods such as pine or ash undergo a process—without chemical additives—that involves high heat and humidity The cell structures are modified in such a way that the water absorption capacity is greatly reduced. This makes the planks less susceptible to wood-damaging fungal or insect infestation and gives them a similar durability to tropical wood and achieve a greatly reduced swelling/shrinkage behavior.
