Roof Terrace in the Wind - Norderney

Right on Norderney’s North Beach, a 280-square-meter rooftop terrace was built at the Kaiserhof at a height of 23 meters. The open location, without a surrounding parapet, posed significant challenges for the construction: Wind suction loads of up to 3 kN/m² had to be taken into account in the corner areas.

To provide additional stability, the existing concrete blocks were integrated into the new substructure as ballast. Existing foundation points for the railing fastenings were also effectively incorporated. Water drainage is provided by 5-mm-wide joints as well as perimeter drainage profiles on facades and door jambs, which also facilitate rear ventilation.
