VARIO MOntage GUIDE

Thanks to its flexibility, the VARIO system offers a wide range of options when building patio structures. Whether steps, landings, planter boxes, benches or an additional level on the patio – the VARIO system makes it all possible.

Versatile and individual terrace constructions can be realized with just two components, and with our new VARIO system staircase, step constructions in particular are quick and easy.

What is the VARIO system anyway?

The VARIO system consists of a construction profile with screw channels for mounting fastening and connection products, such as our VARIO adapter.

With the combination of VARIO construction profile and VARIO adapter alone, countless constructions such as platforms or planters can be easily built and installed.

With additional products such as our VARIO adjustable feet or our variable corner connectors, we expand the possibilities of the VARIO system to meet further requirements in construction and make your work on the construction site as easy as possible.

You can find more information about our VARIO product portfolio here:

The new VARIO system staircase

With our VARIO system staircase, we have expanded our portfolio for 2025 to make the construction of steps even easier. The prefabricated system is available in both two- and three-step versions for laying planks or ceramic tiles and includes all products for the professional construction of a staircase substructure.

Like our VARIO system, the VARIO system staircase can be combined with all system rails and our CLIP decking support. In addition, the entire profile surface can be used for installation.

Application areas of the VARIO system

The VARIO system is particularly suitable for patios with integrated structures such as planters, steps or seating. Thanks to the integrated screw channel, our fasteners are also quick and easy to install.
The VARIO system also offers countless possibilities for structures that are not permanently attached to the decking. This allows you to plan and implement stable, movable and functional structures for your dream patio, regardless of the decking.

Preparation

The basis for an integrated VARIO construction in the decking surface is a stable decking substructure whose support rails are connected to the VARIO construction using the VARIO adapter.

For this reason, precise planning of the decking area and the position of the VARIO structure, as well as the choice of decking, are important aspects of the preparation. This is the only way to integrate the VARIO construction seamlessly into the decking area.

We help you with the planning

Planning and implementing patio constructions can be a challenge, especially for large projects. If you then add structures such as planters, steps or seating, it can quickly become confusing.
Our CAD project team can help you plan your decking with informative and compliant CAD plans. Whether material lists, step-by-step installation instructions or the presentation of the installation pattern, our project designs will help you with the implementation.

Measure, cut, connect and clad!

The aluminum substructure of the terrace is installed and aligned. Normally, the decking would now be covered with the chosen decking material. However, to ensure that our VARIO construction fits seamlessly into the deck and the decking, the VARIO adapters are now installed on the existing substructure.
Step 1: Attaching the VARIO adapter
The VARIO adapter is positioned centrally on the mounting rail of the Alu-UK and mounted with a screw. The screw channel of our CLIP rails makes installation much easier. Simply place the VARIO adapter on the guide of the CLIP rail and screw it in place.
The guide for the mounting rail and the curvature on the underside of the adapter not only prevent slippage during installation, but also ensure constant orthogonal alignment between the mounting rail and adapter.
Step 2: Fastening the VARIO construction profiles
Once all the VARIO adapters have been fitted, the first VARIO construction profiles are assembled. Here, the height of the finished construction can be determined and corrected one last time.
Based on the defined height of the construction (don’t forget that the fasteners and decking must be taken into account in addition to the construction height) , the construction profiles can now be brought to the appropriate length. The VARIO adapter disappears completely into the construction profile during installation and is therefore not included in the length calculation.
The fastening of the VARIO construction profiles to each other also follows the sequence described above. The connection of all profiles using VARIO adapters ensures a stable construction that is suitable for accommodating the selected decking.
Step 3: Installing the fastening and the top layer
Depending on the choice of floor covering, the fixing method also differs. While plank coverings can be easily fastened with the corresponding fasteners from our product portfolio, a single-component MS Polymer adhesive must be used when laying ceramic tiles in order to be able to connect the tiles to the VARIO construction, particularly in the vertical alignment.
If the construction is a staircase that has been realized with our new VARIO system staircase, you will receive the fixing kit as a separate item if required.
A tip! If you want to give your construction a different look with color accents, we recommend using HPL panels as side cladding. With wooden floorboards in particular, this can be used to create a connection to existing privacy screen constructions or pieces of furniture, for example.

An example of the use of the VARIO system: Elbstrasse Hamburg

The Elbstraße project combines our QLICK system with VARIO structural elements, which were used to integrate planting and seating options into the terrace. Our Kebony Clear QLICK planks were chosen as the decking, which after a while develops a natural and visually appealing gray patina. The perfect contrast to the red brick look of the building.
